No play time or cuddle time is required to keep this self-contained cat happy. This breed is truly happy when the food bowl is filled and his activities are his to control. So, if you're looking for a cat that is affectionate and sociable and will curl up in your lap for a lazy afternoon, the British Shorthair is definitely not for you. This breed behavior is highly content to go about its day doing its own thing. The British Shorthair, also known for its stockiness, is a large specimen of cat weighing in at a substantial nine to eighteen pounds.īritish Shorthair Cat Behavior and Characteristics - Referred to as the "four feet on the ground" cat, the British Shorthair is not one for constant offerings of affection. Unique features of British Shorthair are a circular shaped head with broad cheeks and a tail that appears short and thick. Additional colors from which to choose include orange eyed or blue eyed white, red or silver tabby, tortoiseshell, smoke, bi-colors, and point. This created an increase in the gene pool and literally saved the specific shade from utter elimination. In order to preserve this gorgeous shade of blue, dedicated cat lover's bred the remaining blue shorthairs with Blue Persians. British Blue was the name of the color of choice, but after World War II, this distinct color of British Shorthairs almost became nonexistent. It wasn't until the late twentieth century, that these wonderful cats were introduced in the United States, where cat fanciers became enthralled with their unusual personality and size.Īppearance - Offering many different selections of color, one color in particular was so in demand it quickly became the only color recognized by cat associations for many years. Not wanting this beautiful, historical cat to become extinct, a couple of dedicated cat lover's worked perilously to ensure its survival. History - Created in the nineteenth century, the British Shorthair became a very popular cat to own, that is until the mid twentieth century, when other unique breeds began to emerge. On the contrary, as descendants of British farm cats, this breed is a highly skilled and a mighty hunter. Tidal renewable energy7/23/2023 The Clarence and Dundas straits near Darwin have an estimated combined resource of 1.3GW. Other prospective sites are largely in the far north. It could be connected to the national grid or off-grid to Flinders Island, which is currently reliant on a diesel-fuelled generator. Dr Penesis says it could have a capacity of 350MW, generating about three terawatt hours of electricity a year – nearly a third of what Tasmania uses annually. One of the high-potential sites that will be studied is Banks Strait, which stretches between Tasmania’s north-eastern tip and the Furneaux island group. Project chief investigator Irene Penesis, an associate professor at the maritime college, says Australia’s potential installed tidal energy capacity could easily exceed 1.5GW – roughly the scale of Hazelwood, the giant Victorian brown coal generator that was retired in March. Projects are under way in Canada’s Bay of Fundy and at testing sites in Ireland and France, and the maritime college recently completed a trial in Launceston’s Tamar River for Australian manufacturer MAKO Tidal Turbines. The turbine is connected to a gearbox that turns a generator, creating electricity. In simple terms, a tidal energy works via a turbine works like a wind turbine, with blades rotating 12-to-18 times a minute depending on tide strength. And there will be an assessment of the cost of connecting high-potential tidal energy sites to either the national grid or off-grid sites. There will also be a detailed feasibility study of two sites with potential for a commercial-scale tidal plant. The results will be published in an online atlas similar in style to a CSIRO wave energy map completed earlier this year. The three-year plan involves developing a national hydrodynamic tidal model that can map the tidal energy resource to 500m and identifying the most promising regions for energy extraction. This gap should be filled through a new $5.85 million project, led by researchers at the University of Tasmania’s Australian Maritime College in partnership with ARENA, the CSIRO and the University of Queensland. Until now he answer has basically been: we don’t really know.Īustralia’s tidal resource has only been modelled to a resolution of 10km – not fine grained enough to be meaningful given the impact of local geography. Usually, they ask authorities for information about the potential for development around the continent. Though invisible in most discussions of the future of electricity – tidal energy didn’t rate a mention in chief scientist Alan Finkel’s recent review of the future of the National Electricity Market – there has been interest from some investors in the possibility of tidal energy. At a time when a rising proportion of electricity generation comes from inconstant sources, and the need for reliability has become a mantra in public debate, the tides along Australia’s vast coast are potentially a significant untapped resource. Estimates suggest, at the best locations, tidal energy could power a turbine for between 18 and 22 hours a day, every day. Many Latin quotes are used in specific situations and communicated in fewer words than in ordinary English. The last thing you want to do when picking a Latin phrase is to visualize the situation you're going to use it in. How to Pick the Best Latin Phrases That Make You Look Cool History trivia questions often cite that everyday English can't hope to be more concise than Latin already has. It's because each Latin expression has no better sayings in the English language - the phrases contain internal wisdom that cannot be explained in fewer English words. So, it becomes a process of memorization - every Latin term changes, so remembering how it changes when used in a sentence is key to learning Latin. Speaking with grammatical correctness is tough for even seasoned Latin students. The Latin language can be difficult to learn due to its grammar applying to nearly every word, changing it in various ways. Then, once you've learned a good host of words, learn Latin grammar and see how it changes each word. So, when learning Latin, it may be helpful for you to take an English word, see if it originates from Latin, and then Latin root to mind. Other than Yamato and the villains in Akatsuki, Naruto Shippuden delivered far less than Naruto did in terms of characters despite having 3.5x more episodes. I don't even want to touch on the various other characters whose potential were wasted, such as Sasuke's companions in Taka, or the Kages from the neighboring countries, or even Danzo who could've been very interesting if he wasn't so frequently played as a one-note villain for fabricated tension. In only 135 episodes, Naruto introduced us to all the key protagonists for the rest of the series, and fully fleshed them out with distinct personalities, interesting backstories, and powerful relationship dynamics. Not to mention that the Chuunin Exam Arc is still my favorite story arc in all of Naruto, followed by the Sasuke Retrieval Arc which had the best written fights of all time (back when fights were about theme and smarts, not just who has the most chakra and willpower). The simplicity of Naruto's singular goal and the progression of obstacles he had to overcome led to some of the most powerful moments in anime, and it was a lot easier to follow because the story was so focused. In retrospect, I find that Naruto was more enjoyable overall. The tone of the series grew quite a bit darker as well, shifting from the youthful exuberance and optimism of Naruto's childhood to the uncomfortable realities of adulthood, war, and grief. Naruto's plot is primarily personal: it's all about Naruto's struggle as a discarded outsider who wants to become Hokage and win the respect of those around him.
